There are plenty of exciting performing arts events to check out in Calgary this Spring! Our city is full of creative and memorable shows that are sure to be exciting for all. Check out our suggestions for performances in theatre, music, and dance to check out this spring:
The Secret Garden | April 17-May 19
Based on the iconic novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, this play tells the story of a young orphan sent away to live with her uncle on his large estate. While exploring the estate on her own, the little girl finds a key to a long forgotten garden full of wonder. Performances take place at the Max Bell Theatre at 7:30 pm Tuesday to Thursday as well as Sunday and at 8 pm on Friday and Saturday, plus a 2 pm Saturday matinee. There are lots of chances to catch this amazing show and it’s the perfect activity for kids and families, so don’t miss out! Tickets start at just $35.
Legally Blonde: The Musical | April 20-June 24
Based on the awesome film starring Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde: The Musical is a fun, witty, and hilarious musical about a sorority girl turned Harvard Law student. When Elle Woods’ boyfriend dumps her, she becomes determined to join him at Harvard Law and prove that she’s just as smart as him. And despite all the stereotypes working against her, she finds that she’s capable of so much more than anyone thought. Catch the shows at Stage West Calgary, with group discounts available if you book with 4 people or more for certain performances. Please note the theatre does not allow children under the age of 4.
All of Us (The Tragically Hip Ballet) | May 2-May 5
Alberta Ballet pays homage to the late Gord Downie and the Tragically Hip with this electrifying post-apocalyptic rock ballet. The scene is set in a “scorched and desolate world”, where the last remaining survivors explore their charred surroundings in search of food and water. Among the chaos of destruction and the need to survive, the forces of greed and hatred battle with the instincts of protection and compassion. Show times are Wednesday to Friday at 7:30 pm and Saturday at 2 pm and 7:30 pm. Performances take place at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium and tickets start at $47. Please note this show may not be suitable for viewers under 13 years old.
