7 Great Reasons to Check Out ZOOLIGHTS
- February 28, 2017

1. This is Calgary Zoo’s 20th celebration of ZOOLIGHTS, so it’s the most glow-tastic one yet, with some 1.5 million twinkling lights on display.
2. This year’s ZOOLIGHTS focuses on how animals interact with their habitats. There will be information and activities on migration, hibernation and adaptation on display that will teach visitors about conservation while they enjoy one of the prettiest festive events in Calgary.
3. ZOOLIGHTS features five holiday traditions not to be missed: Christmas lights, playing in the snow, ice skating, sitting by a fireplace sipping on hot chocolate and visiting Santa.
4. You’ll find Santa in the magical world of Wonderland, and the Mad Hatter in the ENMAX Conservatory. The ENMAX Conservatory is divided into three sections this year: Santa in the Queen’s court, the Mad Hatter’s tea party in the butterfly garden, and down the rabbit hole in the Garden of Life.
5. You can build your own ‘Hibernation Station’ at Grazers Lawn. With a little guidance from a friendly volunteers, you and your kids can build a variety of different animal hibernation habitats with building blocks. Getting cozy in your very own customized den is awesome at this time of year!
6. You can play with a giant Lite-Brite! Create migration routes that help animals get from point A to point B in this game.
7. You can skate your heart out. Free skate rentals are available for all ages from KidSport Calgary, and there’s a DJ playing on Friday and Saturday nights. Stop by the Sugar Shack afterwards for a sweet treat.
ZOOLIGHTS is running every evening from 6pm to 9pm until January 6, except for December 25. Tickets for those 16 years plus are $14.95, and kids from age three to 15 get in for $11.95. Don't forget to use #ZOOLIGHTSYYC in your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram posts.
