CALGARY MAPLE FESTIVAL DES SUCRES

There’s nothing as Canadian as maple syrup, and no tradition quite as French-Canadian as tire d’erable, the “maple taffy” made from pouring warm maple syrup on French snow. If you’ve never tried it, you’re not yet 100% Canadian – I’m not trying to be controversial, that’s just a fact!
The Calgary Maple Festival des Sucres is produced by the ACFA Calgary, a non-profit organization that promotes French Canadian culture around the world. Taking place at Heritage Park, the Festival takes place March 3 and 4 and lets you learn about maple syrup and its production, participate in fun events that teach you about French-Canadian and Metis culture (including live music), and of course, enjoy classically prepared maple taffy.

AI-YAH! SWEET AND SOUR SECRETS

A spellbinding work from writer Dale Lee Kwong, this piece won a Discovery Prize in the 2006 Alberta Playwriting Competition. Follow Chinese-Canadian Jade Kwong as she learns a series of family secrets in the most awkward family dinner you’ll ever laugh at! A hilarious take on what happens when cultures collide, this crowd-pleasing work starts Feb. 19 at the Lunchbox Theatre and is featured until March 10. Get tickets here!
 

A RED CARPET AFFAIR

A fundraiser for the Calgary International Film Festival, A Red Carpet Affair is CIFF’s Annual Oscar Party where you can participate in the glitz and glamour of the Academy Awards while still supporting local and independent filmmaking in Canada. The stars come out in Calgary on March 5 at the Engineered Air Theatre at the Arts Commons!
