It’s time for The Big Taste!

Calgary’s restaurants are some of the best in the world. Home to an exciting culinary scene with a tight-knit community of chefs who all compete with each other and themselves to create truly stunning original creations for their patrons, a trip to Calgary can be daunting for the foodie – where do you choose to eat?

For the uninitiated, The Big Taste is a Calgary food festival where restaurants across the city agree to offer a three-course prix fixe meal! By offering a reduced menu, these chefs are able to focus on serving their best for a great price. This year’s event takes place from March 2 and 11, which gives you plenty of opportunities to experience all the great food in Calgary! Here are some spots we can’t wait to visit:

Bar Von Der Fels: A wine bar with truly upscale eats, Bar Von Der Fels is the perfect site for an elegant and romantic date. Their small plates are meant to be enjoyed with wine, but actually steal the show; we’re obsessed with their beef tartare with sunchokes and Avonlea cheddar and think you will be too.

Bread & Circus: A love letter to the culinary traditions of Rome, Bread & Circus offers up rustic and hearty Italian fare with the balance and taste of the finest restaurants. Their Tortellini in Brodo (dumpling style pasta in pork broth) alone justifies their existence as one of Calgary’s hottest restaurants.

One18 Empire: A whisky bar with a taste for the finer things in life, One18 Empire is THE place to sip a smoky whisky and enjoy a perfectly executed steak or burger. Meat and malt – a winning combination.
