
Expand your movie-going horizons at the Calgary International Film Festival

You may have heard of Cannes and Sundance, but have you heard of the Calgary International Film Festival? Now in its 18th year, the Calgary International Film Festival is fast becoming one of the most essential events for film-goers in Canada.
Running from September 19th – 30th, this 12-day festival will screen a wide variety of films from both Canada and around the world. The festival also hosts gala events and a Behind the Screen series which gives audiences a chance to interact with filmmakers who are presenting their films at the festival. It’s a true gathering place for cinema lovers, and an event not to be missed if you enjoy films!
The full film guide for 2018 won’t be released until August 23rd, but below are some early highlights from the festival guide.
CLARA
From Canadian director, Akash Sherman comes an atmospheric sci-fi romance about two astronomers who are drawn together by looking for signs of life in the universe. If you like films in the vein of Interstellar and Arrival, then we highly recommend you check out Clara.MAKING COCO: THE GRANT FUHR STORY
Presented at the festival’s Closing Gala, this documentary tells the life story of Alberta’s own Grant Fuhr. Featuring archival footage and interviews with some of the NHL’s greats, this film will offer insight into Fuhr’s career playing for the Edmonton Oilers, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Buffalo Sabres. Grant Fuhr himself will be in attendance at the closing gala to give a Q&A after the screening. UP TO SNUFF
The themes songs for The Drew Carey Show and The West Wing are almost instantly recognizable, but do you know the man behind this music? Up to Snuff tells the story of W.G.
