What To Do In Calgary In The Fall

  • October 01, 2023

Fall is a great time to visit Calgary as there are less crowds which makes it easier to get into attractions and eateries with wait times being much shorter.  It has been said that Calgary "combines the energy of a major metropolitan city with the warmth and welcoming spirit of a small town".  And no matter where you are in Calgary, one can see the beautiful foothills and magnificent Rocky Mountains in the distance!  Temperatures will be cool, cooler and colder as the fall months progress closer to winter, but the weather is dry with only 11 inches of rain falling on average per month.

So, what to do in Calgary......Firstly, no matter which month you find yourself in town, the #1 thing to do is visit the CALGARY TOWER!  The Calgary Tower is a MAJOR TOURIST DESTINATION with a popular dining spot complete with an amazing panoramic view.  You will be 191 meters ABOVE the downtown core with a 360 degree view of the city and the Rocky Mountains.  And then to top it off, do STAND ON THE GLASS FLOOR for a bird's-eye view of the city streets BELOW!  And lastly, at night, do try to catch the external LED LIGHT SHOW from dusk till midnight--there are more than 132 lights in total producing more than 16.5 million colors and effects.

You can buy your tickets in advance for the Calgary Tower General Admission by going online or purchasing at the door.  There may be a wait time so, if possible, go before 11 am and not on the week-ends.   You will not be disappointed with the views.

The fall weather will be cooler but if you wear a couple of layers of outer clothing and feel the need for a walk, and don't want anything strenuous, go to Nose Hill Park.  The park is Canada's third largest urban park, offering hiking trails even in winter.  This walk is not difficult: it is an out-and back trail that is nearly 6 km's (3.7 miles) long and takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete at a steady pace. With the cooler temperatures and the walking to warm up the body, you could almost feel that you were in Hawaii! Not quite but you will feel invigorated.

The DAYS INN CALGARY AIRPORT is close to the airport which makes it a great, convenient stay to catch flights.  Drop off your rented car or just get dropped off at the airport and then wait for your flight with time to spare.  While you are waiting for your flight or waiting to pick up people, why not have a bite to eat?  In Concourse E , Wolfgang Puck has great breakfasts and world class cuisine at YYC.  Concourse A, B, and C have another breakfast spot called Chill's that serves classic breakfasts any time of the day.  If you want to try some locally crafted beer, check out LB Taphouse at CONCOURSE A, B, & C.  which offers a wide range of beers from the Last Best Brewery and Distillery.  Cocktails are also available.  Lastly, in Pre-Security, there is an excellent stop for a beer, glass of wine or cocktail at Bistro on the Bow--a great place to wait for your plane or welcoming someone.

For a fall get-away, book your stay with us here at Days Inn by Calgary airport.  Along with a convenient location, you will be offered clean, comfortable, well-appointed rooms and suites, plus luxurious on-site amenities which includes an indoor whirlpool, complimentary breakfast and fitness centre.  Enjoy your stay in Calgary and our hotel!
