Calling all Calgary foodies! Alberta on the Plate, the biggest food festival in the province, is coming to Calgary this August.

Kicking off August 6th and running for ten whole days until August 15th, Alberta on the Plate is a celebration of local chefs, ingredients, and restaurants.

As a province-wide event, Alberta on the Plate won’t just be celebrated in Calgary, but in 26 cities across the province, including Edmonton, Red Deer, Airdrie, Grande Prairie, Jasper, Banff, Canmore, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Lake Louise.

Between August 6th and 15th, participating restaurants all across Alberta will offer special, fixed-price, multi-course menus intended to highlight the best dishes the province has to offer.

This year alone, over 87 restaurants and 250 local producers are getting involved, many of whom hail from Calgary.

Throughout the festival, Calgary residents and visitors alike are encouraged to dine at local restaurants participating in the festival.

The best part is that Alberta on the Plate is intended to showcase local growers, cattle raisers, and chefs in Alberta, which is why the dishes all feature local ingredients.

The goal for this festival is to connect chefs, producers, and restaurant-goers, making everyone think twice about where the food they eat actually comes from.

Participating restaurants in Calgary include A1, Alloy, Forage, Flower & Wolf, Selkirk Grille, Rouge Restaurant, Wild Roses Brewery, The Coup, Yellow Door, Sage + Co., Lougheed House, Posto Pizzeria and Bar, and Fraser & Fig, among others. There are also several participating eateries in nearby neighbourhoods like Jam’s and Ferraro in Airdrie, Community Flatbread Co. in Cochrane, and Heartland Cafe & Restaurant in Okotoks.

Sponsors of this year’s event are Alberta Beer, Alberta Beef, Alberta Beekeepers Commission, Food Tourism Strategies, Alberta Chicken, Alberta Milk, Egg Farmers of Alberta, and Tourism Red Deer.

A wide range of cuisines will be represented at Alberta on the Plate 2021, so whether you’re in the mood for healthy eats, Italian pizza, seafood, steak, or classic pub food, you’ll be able to find it at one of Calgary’s participating restaurants.

If you need a place to stay during your visit to Calgary, we’d love to host you at the Days Inn by Wyndham Calgary Airport. We combine a welcoming atmosphere, family-friendly amenities, and a great location right near the airport.
